Genevieve Simmonds is a Vancouver-based painter, photographer, and mixed media artist. She is inspired by the land, sea, and city in the region, and particularly their silhouettes and abstractions. Moved by the tranquility and complexity of the local environment, she aspires to share these sentiments through a range of expressions, including the layering and texturing of the built surface.
Since her earliest artistic endeavours Genevieve has been interested in materials exploration, and has taken courses that consider media in relation to meaning at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. She has had an active practice for over 30 years, is currently part of Portside Studios, and a member of the 901 Artists Co-operative, serving as a Director on their Board.
